A rather eventful start to the bike ride, yesterday Malcolm, who was enroute from Alicante, managed to get his passport and rail ticket stolen so was stranded. Later in the day, having driven for nearly 1000-miles without incident and having arrived in Barcelona the backup van had a puncture but while we were changing the tyre two bags were stolen from the cab of the van, and another passport was gone – we later found out the this was a scam and the van tyre had been knifed!
Undeterred we setoff as planned at 8.00am and made our way to Girona, by 8.15 we had had our first crash when Bill hit the kerb and came off his bike! But the rest of the day was perfect, the weather was very hot, the scenery beautiful and the hills (mountains) juicy. We all arrived safely at our hotel in Girona at 4.00pm with 78-miles completed and are now enjoying a well deserved cold beer in the bar. Our route had taken us from Barcelona and along the Costa Brava, at Tossa we turned inland and climbed through the foothills of the Pyrenees to Girona.
